Our Services
At J-N Vision PC, we understand the importance of vision, the most dominant human sense, so we are dedicated to providing the highest level of service and vision care. We offer our patients diligent and methodical refractions that places their individual visual needs first and foremost. Our goal for you is clear and comfortable vision, which for most people is 20/20 or better. However, we understand clear and comfortable vision does not always have to be 20/20 or better. The act of seeing should be easy, durable, and sustainable - free of conscious thought. Wearing the wrong ophthalmic corrective lenses, especially ones that are too strong, has the potential to make 'seeing' less easy and can negatively impact not only the visual system, but the entire body, because of vision's pervasive reach across all the systems of the body. When vision works, it enhances our lives. When it does not work, it impedes and interferes.
Routine vision examinations are recommended to monitor your refractive status and eye health. We offer the following services:

Comprehensive Vision Examinations
Scheduled for up to an hour, this appointment includes an ophthalmic refraction to measure the status of the eyes, a binocular vision screening, and an ocular health evaluation. Dr. Nguyen explores each patient's specific visual needs and makes his recommendations.

Developmental Vision Examinations
For the patient with complaints beyond blurred eyesight. This evaluation includes numerous sensorimotor (visual functioning) and perceptual (visual thinking) tests in addition to the testing performed within a comprehensive vision examination. This two-part option includes a separate in-office conference to discuss the findings of the examination and the impact of vision issues on underachievement in school, sports, reading, and movement. Candidates for developmental vision examinations are typically of school age, but not always, and often complain of one or more of the following:
- Periodic or constant blurred vision or double vision
- Losing place and skipping words and lines when reading
- Delays in reading and/or writing development
- Headaches, neckaches, backaches resulting from sustained near-point activities, such as reading, writing, and computer use
- Fatigue, even after short periods of near-point activity
- Clumsiness or poor motor coordination
- Poor spatial awareness in sports or when driving
Developmental exams for children are typically scheduled as two visits, a 90-minute appointment for the evaluation itself, with at least one parent present, and a one-hour parent conference for a discussion about vision, the test results, and recommended treatment options. A detailed report may be requested as necessary.
Developmental exams for adults are scheduled as one 90-minute appointment and includes both the testing and consultation regarding the patient's visual issues and needs.

Neuro-Optometric Vision Examinations and Rehabilitation
This 90-minute evaluation is designed particularly for brain-compromised patients, whether congenital or acquired. A significant portion of the appointment is devoted to the taking of a detailed case history and providing a thorough explanation of the findings. The extra time also allows for patients to recover within the appointment time, as gathering information and taking optometric measurements from patients with brain injury often increases the intensity of their symptoms. We recommend for the patient to be accompanied by another person, preferably an adult, for this type of appointment. As with optometric vision therapy, treatment and rehabilitation for vision problems associated with brain conditions are offered in our dedicated therapy room.
Dr. Nguyen's office accepts worker's compensation claims as long as we have written pre-authorization from the insurance adjustor. Please be advised that the patient is ultimately responsible for any unpaid fees.

Optometric Vision Therapy
What Is Optometric Vision Therapy?
Optometric vision therapy is a doctor-supervised treatment program utilizing specialized activities and procedures to address the areas of visual dysfunction that was identified in the initial developmental or neuro-optometric evaluation. Using specifically-designed instruments, devices, and computers, conditions are set to challenge the patient's visual processing, with success being the ultimate goal. When success is reached at one level, the demands are continually increased, until the individual has reached maximum efficiency. Each activity or procedure has its own challenge - eye-hand coordination, tracking, binocular fusion, focusing, or peripheral awareness - and feedback mechanism, when necessary. Lenses and prisms are used as directed by the doctor and can be a critical component of the therapy program.
Goals Of Optometric Vision Therapy
The goal of optometric vision therapy is improvement in two main areas of vision, sensorimotor functioning and operational thinking. Sensorimotor processing difficulties that are addressed include, but are not limited to, tracking, focusing, convergence, divergence, and binocular vision. These abilities are critical for success in both educational and athletic environments. Operational thinking involves spatial thinking, logical reasoning, and visualization, which specifically relate to mathematical reasoning and problem-solving.
Common Results After Optometric Vision Therapy
- Reduction/elimination of double vision
- Ability to focus better and concentrate longer on near work and/or computer tasks
- Reduced headaches and fatigue at the end of day
- Better driving skills
- Improved athletic performance
- Increased affinity for reading
- Improved sense of self-confidence, self-esteem

Ophthalmic Glasses & Contact Lenses
Ophthalmic Glasses
We carry a modest selection of ophthalmic frames and we use regional optical laboratories dedicated to accurate and consistent craftsmanship. Dr. Nguyen checks all ophthalmic prescription lenses to ensure their accuracy before they are dispensed to the patient.
Lenses for Acuity: to maximize clarity and comfort at all distances. Often, one pair of spectacle glasses may not be enough, because specific tasks may require focus at a distance that a single pair cannot offer.
Stress-Reducing Lenses: for reducing stress and fatigue during sustained near-point activities. These lenses may be prescribed for either children or adults and are used to decrease strain on the visual system when reading, studying, and working at close distances.
Prism lenses: to help establish single vision for patients experiencing difficulty teaming their two eyes together. Prisms and micro-prisms can also be applied for the enhancement of gait, balance, and movement.
Tinted lenses: Special tints for individuals with sensitivity to light, often a symptom of brain trauma, as well as standard sunglass tints are available.
Contact Lenses
Soft and gas-permeable contact lens fittings are available. We offer contact lenses at competitive prices.

Accommodation Letters
For individuals who require personalized treatment for achievement tests, such as the SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, and MCAT, or their workplace because of problems related to vision, Dr. Nguyen is able to compose an evidence-based report to assist with the request of such accommodations. More recent optometric data will allow the report to carry more weight so a new comprehensive vision examination may be required. These detailed letters must conform to very specific requirements by the testing service and involve significant preparation time. We ask for 30 days notice for these reports and require a fee, which depends on the complexity of the document to be produced.
